BJC offers long-term disability (LTD) coverage to eligible employees, which provides a source of income if you become disabled. It is possible that a serious injury or sickness may keep you from working for a prolonged time, which may result in your inability to financially support yourself or your family.
The LTD coverage is designed to help provide you with a financial safety net if you become disabled and unable to work for more than 180 days.
BJC pays the cost of level 1 LTD coverage for most full-time employees with at least six months of service; this pays you 50 percent of your base monthly pay, up to a maximum of $8,000 per month, while you are disabled
If you prefer an increased amount of coverage, you may pay the additional cost for level 2 coverage; this pays you 60 percent of your base monthly pay, up to $10,000 per month
To calculate your cost per pay paycheck: Divide annual base pay by 100. Multiply the result by the applicable rate above. Divide by 26 pay periods to determine your contribution per pay period.
Example: a full-time employee with more than 6 months of service, age 40, with base pay of $30,000.
$30,000 divided by 100 = 300; 300 times $0.352 divided by 26 pay periods = $4.06 per paycheck.
If you are an eligible part-time employee and have six months of service, you can purchase the level 2 LTD coverage
Residents: you must purchase LTD coverage unless you can provide proof of coverage from another plan within 15 days of your hire date; your coverage will be effective on the first day of the month after 30 days of employment
2017 Employee Contributions for additional optional Long-Term Disability Insurance Coverage

You are eligible to participate in the LTD plan if you are a regular:
Full-time employee who works at least 35 hours per week or 70 hours per pay period
Part-time employee who works at least 24 hours per week or 48 hours per pay period
